Ephesians (International Theological Commentary)
I’m under contract and hard at work on a commentary on Ephesians in T&T Clark’s International Theological Commentary series, edited by Michael Allen and Scott Swain.
Theological commentaries, especially those written by systematic theologians without specialist training in biblical studies, have tended to avoid getting into enough exegetical detail. This volume might extend to more than 200,000 words, giving ample room for close attention to how the words run, to the history of exegesis, and to doctrinal interconnections. Ephesians is a book especially well suited to theological interpretation, partly because of its main themes and exalted vocabulary, and partly because it naturally falls into clear topical sub-sections.
This is definitely an academic book, but I’m taking care to write clearly and without undue jargon. Ideally I’d like to submit the manuscript in the summer of 2025.
